DRAGUIGNAN

The Domaine is close to the charming town of Draguignan, only an hour drive from Nice, yet holds a close connection to northern Europe. Indeed, Swedish state-owned Vin & Sprit bought the vineyard in the mid ’80s in order to develop and distribute prestigious Provençal wines, while creating facilities where they could host conferences and seminars on the subject.

The numerous awards and the international recognition received as early as the 1990s were a clear indication of the production of high quality wines.

Domaine Rabiega was bought by its current owner, wine entrepreneur Anders Åkesson, in 2006.  He has successfully managed to upgrade and improve the production of the Domaine, thus further enhancing the brand’s image. This year’s production will result in 45 000 bottles.

Domaine Rabiega covers over 11 hectares of land. 10 hectares represents AOC-classified land, 8,5 which is currently used for wine production. There are also numerous olive trees yielding over 100 litres of oil yearly. As a result of Vin & Sprit’s important investments the production facilities include particularly high-end equipment and machinery; all of which is in excellent condition.

The main building is home to the large cellar and production facilities, but also to 3 offices, a conference room, a shop and an apartment. The surface area of the main building is 1 300 m2. The Domaine is supplied by local communal water but also enjoys a well that can provide water for the whole property.

Hotel, Restaurant & Conference Facilities

Domaine Rabiega enjoys hotel, restaurant and conference facilities, including a newly renovated swimming pool and terrace, as well as a bar. There are 20 double bedrooms with a capacity for 40 guests. The restaurant can handle from 70 covers indoors to 170 covers including the terrace and the poolside area. The hotel and restaurant occupy 3 buildings totalling 1 600 m2 of surface area. The hotel and restaurant businesses are currently rented to outside management.

Lodging

Regarding lodging, Domaine Rabiega offers 3 well-appointed apartments & a house :

Apartment 1 is located in the main building. It features an open kitchen and living room with fireplace, a large bedroom with bathroom and a guestroom with shower. Approx 100 m2.

Apartment 2 is located above the restaurant facility. It features a large open kitchen with dining room, a large bedroom with bathroom, living room, 2 single bedrooms with shower and a terrace. Approx 130 m2.

Apartment 3 is located on the ground floor of the restaurant building. It features a kitchen / living room and a bedroom with bathroom. Approx 50 m2.

The house itself offers a kitchen, living room & bedroom with shower. Approx 45 m2.

History

Grapes have been cultivated since the 16th century when the land was owned by the Ière dynasty. Christiane Rabiega gave the Domaine its name when she acquired the property in the ’60s. Swedish state-owned Vin & Sprit purchased the vineyard in 1986 with the intention to develop prestigious Provençal wines and exclusive class and conference capabilities.

Renowned winemaker Lars Torstenson managed the property and produced wines that quickly gained international recognition. Wine entrepreneur Anders Åkesson acquired Domaine Rabiega in 2006 and has since further developed wine production and made numerous investments and improvements, including the creation of new wines.
